can cause serious opportunistic infections in immunocompromised patients. Nocardial brain abscess in these patients has a high mortality. We describe a patient with brain abscess. After the abscess was evacuated at craniotomy, the patient was treated successfully with trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, meropenem, and amikacin. ( J Intern Med Taiwan 2005; 16: 279-282 )

We report a brain abscess, following a primary pulmonary colonization, due to this species in a human immunodeficiency virus-infected patient.
